Overview
The Vineyard
As you travel the back roads of Sussex County Delaware, you may not expect to find a 26-acre winery, but that’s exactly what you will stumble upon when you turn onto Blackwater Road. Look for the Salted Vines sign and behind it you will see our very first vines, planted in April of 2016. Since then we've planted an acre of Malbec in 2017 and an acre of Vermentino in 2019 on the land located behind our tasting room building. These original, two-acres of Founding Vines are marked with 48 end stakes and are planted with Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. Our plan is to add additional acres of grapes each year.
The Tasting Room
Warm and inviting. Elegant yet cozy. That’s the vibe you’ll get here in the Salted Vines Tasting Room. Every part of the decor was carefully considered and most of it was built or put in place by the owners or someone on the SV team, from the hand-poured concrete countertops to staining each piece of wood on the pallet wall. Warm lights glow from our cage pendant lights, fabulous chandelier, and VINO sign. During the chillier months, you can warm up and with a glass of wine by the stone fireplace. We hope you enjoy the atmosphere we have created here at Salted Vines and encourage you to make yourself at home.
The Cellar
This is where the magic happens! The Salted Vines production room is kept at a chilly 64 degrees, keeping the room at the ideal temperature for making your favorite wines and storing all of the wine inventory.
In 2022, we completed a 6,000 square foot addition that included a new tank room, lab, bottling room, barrel room, crush pad, office space, patio bar, and semi-private patio. We've added many new tanks and now have 14,800 gallons of cooperage, which we plan to increase to 21,000 gallons by 2024. As you can imagine, this allows us to make a lot of wine, including new things like cider and sparkling wine. We are also now able to have a 3-year aging program for our red wines.
