Comfortable cloths for biking, closed toe shoes for riding, water, sunscreen and a backpack (if you have one available)

How long will the battery last?
Typically, you can expect non-premium e-bikes to last between 12 - 30 miles on a single charge, and premium e-bikes to last between 30 - 60 miles. This will depend on the weight of the rider, how the bike gear system is used by the rider, the amount of pedal assistance used, the type of bike and the type of terrain (hilly vs. non-hilly). To attain the maximum range, make sure to use the gear system and apply a lower level of pedal assist. Especially when going uphill, make sure you are on a lower gear. If you run out of battery, the beauty is you will still be able to pedal and use gears and ride like a regular bike. If you are using a bike for more than a day, we recommend charging the battery each night, as it may take several hours to get to a full charge. We will show you how to remove and charge the battery during your orientation. If you are renting bikes for longer range and riding towards the north side of West Maui, employ energy saving techniques.

Keep your Bike Secure and Safe
A lock and helmet are included with each rental free of charge. It is your responsibility to pick up and return these items.

Store the e-bike in a safe location protected from the rain.

If you get off your bike, be sure to lock the bike and battery to a stationary object.

DO NOT change the lock combination. If you do this by mistake, please inform RideSmart Maui of the new combo.

Follow the Rules of the Road
RIDE TO THE RIGHT OF THE LANE AND IN THE SAME DIRECTION AS TRAFFIC.

Always ride single file, NOT side-by-side when traveling with others.

FOLLOW TRAFFIC LIGHTS, SIGNALS & LANE MARKERS.

Use hand signals when making turns and stopping.

STAY OFF SIDEWALKS, GOLF COURSE PATHS and any area marked "No Bikes".

USE YOUR LIGHTS AT DUSK AND DARK to increase visibility and safety.

Overview

Kapalua, loosely translated as “arms embracing the sea,” is one of Maui’s premier resort areas located at the foot of the verdant Kahalawai or West Maui mountains. Kapalua’s lovely shoreline is lined with five bays and three white-sand beaches, one of which was named “The Best Beach in America” by the University of Maryland’s Laboratory of Coastal Research.

The Kapalua Resort has miles of trails to hike, including the 3.5-mile Coastal Trail. At the ocean’s edge throughout Kapalua Resort, the coastal trail runs north from award-winning Kapalua Bay Beach, across the sand dunes at picturesque Oneloa Bay, through The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua’s scenic grounds to popular D.T. Fleming Beach Park. The 3.5-mile trail will reach historic Honolua Bay, where the voyaging canoe Hokule‘a began its maiden voyage to Tahiti, launching the Hawaiian cultural renaissance in spring 1976, and where surfers all over the world come over to enjoy its winter swell.

Please note 3.5-mile coastal trail is not a bike trail. You can park your bike and walk the coastal trail and take amazing pictures.

On your ride, these are some places to explore-

Dragon’s Teeth – Makalua-puna Point off Office Road, Kapalua
D.T. Fleming Beach Park
Oneloa Bay
Kapalua Coastal Trail (this is a walking trail) – Great opportunity to take pictures
Kapalua Plantation Course
Kapalua Resort
The Ritz-Carlton Spa, Kapalua
Montage Kapalua
Honolua Store & many more!

On this 4-hour self-guided tour, you will:
Explore the wonderful sights of the Kapalua, all from an electric-powered bike that takes the sting out of bike riding and enables the rider to experience and enjoy the changing scenery of award-winning Kapalua Bay. With an extra couple of hours, you can also enjoy the Village Walking Trail along with fun activities that the entire family can enjoy. It’s a great opportunity to take gorgeous pictures. This activity will create an unforgettable travel experience for your entire family. To fully experience Kapalua, 4-hour or full day ride is recommended.
