Additional Information
My kids not going to crab do we still need to pay for them?
The Captain Kidd is licensed to carry a set number of passengers and crew on every tour. The Coast Guard counts infants, kids, moms and dads all as individual passengers and thus are taking a limited spot on the boat. We have to charge and count every individual onboard.
Do you have a bathroom on the boat?
Yes!! We have a bathroom on the boat with a full working toilet. This will make the kids and parents very happy.
Sailing Daily from Dock “C” in Shelter Cove Marina
The Captain Kidd is safe, stable and comfortable with a bathroom and fully shaded seating. For everyone enjoyment, we will only travel in calm protected waters which are very close to the marina. The boat is equipped with all the modern and required safety equipment per the United States Coast Guard and because of our high railing’s kids are not required to wear a safety vest while on the boat.

Know before you go
What will we catch?
The Captain Kidd is focused on catching our local blue crabs or fish on one of our two tour options. Fishing will be seasonal so please inquire about that option if interested. For crabbing, we will use the local Gullah method of chicken necks on the bottom of our shallow water creeks. We will provide everything you need to have a good time on the boat. During your trip we will release everything we catch which protects the local commercial crabbing industry.
How old do you need to be to participate in this event?
We can take anyone of any age! Yes, that means we can also take infants and kids of all ages on this fun adventure. Since the Coast Guard counts every individual regardless of age, we do have a small charge for infants. Most kids 3 and over will have a fun time participating in this event. We have a touch tank on the boat which is filled with local sea friends that will keep kids of all ages occupied.
Where will we crab or fish? Are the waters safe?
We are very lucky to be located near some of the best crabbing areas on the Island. Shelter Cove marina is only a mile away from where we will crab in the shallow waters of Broad Creek. We will drop lines near where our local crabbers drop cages to catch our local blue crabs. We will catch and release all of our crabs caught on the trip! We will be in less than 10ft of water at all times and no further then 100 ft from shore.
Overview
Our Sport Crabbing Adventure aboard the Captain Kidd just might be the most exciting, exhilarating, and entertaining thing you do on vacation! Well…maybe not the most exhilarating thing — but you’ll sure have a heck-of-a-great time.
After a short cruise from Shelter Cove Harbour (narrated by your captain so you don’t miss any sights along the way), the Captain Kidd anchors up in the shallow saltwater marshes of Hilton Head. Our crabby crew will offer a brief demonstration on how to catch the little critters and then…let the games begin! Whether you’re looking for a kids fishing trip or fun day of crabbing, this is the tour for you.
Each passenger is supplied with their own crabbing equipment and whoever catches the most crabs by the time the bell rings wins the official (and much coveted) t-shirt! Ohhhh yeah.
