Overview
Shipyard Golf Club offers a memorable golfing experience, nestled within Hilton Head Island’s natural setting of towering Carolina pines, moss-draped oaks, and scenic lagoons. The club features 27 holes of championship golf, divided into three nine-hole courses: Brigantine, Clipper, and Galleon. These courses can be played in three different 18-hole combinations, each offering a unique challenge.
Brigantine Course: Designed by Willard C. Byrd, this course winds through picturesque lagoons and rolling terrain. With slight doglegs and well-placed bunkers, it requires strategic shot-making and a solid short game.
Clipper Course: This George W. Cobb design is the most challenging of the three, featuring numerous sand and water hazards. Precision off the tee and a soft touch around the greens are crucial.
Galleon Course: Also designed by George W. Cobb, this course meanders through large oak trees and pine forests. Approach shots must be carefully placed to navigate heavily guarded greens.
Each course offers four tee positions, accommodating all skill levels while providing risk-reward opportunities. The large, well-bunkered greens with undulating surfaces require a delicate yet controlled putting stroke. All 27 greens were converted to Diamond Zoysia, enhancing the playing conditions.
