Itinerary Overview
1. Check-In at MSR Paia Shop (8:45am)
Start your day in the laid-back North Shore surf town of Paia. The team will welcome you and get you ready for the ride with a comprehensive safety briefing and professional gear fitting. You’ll be outfitted with a full-face helmet, gloves, rain/wind gear, a backpack, and a high-performance bike.
2. Scenic Van Tour to 6,500 Feet
Enjoy a comfortable drive through upcountry Maui up to 6,500ft on the slopes of Haleakalā. Along the way, an experienced guide will share Maui’s unique history, volcanic landscape, and local cultural insights
3. Start Your Self-Guided Bike Ride
Begin your adventure just outside Haleakalā National Park at 6,500 ft — the highest legal starting point for self-guided rides. Cruise through wide-open ranchlands with panoramic views of the ocean, central valley, and neighboring islands. Enjoy the cool mountain air as you descend through a series of scenic switchbacks and rolling hills. Take your time, stop for photos, and soak in the vast beauty of Upcountry Maui at your own pace.
4. Van Tour through Kula (Highway Bypass)
Van tour from Kula to Makawao. As required by Maui County law, to ensure your safety, all bike tour companies shuttle you past a short stretch of highway with no shoulder.
5. Continue Riding Through Makawao
Pedal into the charming Upcountry town of Makawao, known for its paniolo (cowboy) roots and local arts scene. Take time to stop for coffee, browse boutique shops, or enjoy a casual lunch. This is your moment to stretch your legs and experience authentic Maui culture.
6. Final Descent to Paia
Enjoy a smooth, scenic ride as you descend through Maui’s lush North Shore. This final stretch winds through tropical greenery with ocean glimpses along the way. You’ll roll back into Paia at sea level, refreshed and accomplished. Most riders return by early afternoon — perfect timing to beat the traffic and enjoy the rest of your day.
